Synopsis:

Through intimate narrations and evocative imagery, women across the Dominican Republic reflect on their experiences with forced motherhood and clandestine abortion. What does it mean to exist as a woman in a country where abortion remains criminalized without exception?

  • Paula Cury is a Dominican film producer and director. Her short documentary Adrift won the Academy-Award qualifying award of Best Documentary Short at the Flicker’s Rhode Island Film Festival and has garnered more than 150,000 views online. Her feature film “Scarlet Girls” recently won the Berlinale World Cinema Fund and is finalizing postproduction. Paula currently resides in her home country, working as a university professor and promoting impact filmmaking through her company Cristal Cine.
