  • Paula Cury Melo is a producer and director born in the Dominican Republic. Her short documentary "A La Deriva" garnered international acclaim, including Best Documentary Short at the Rhode Island International Film Festival, becoming the festival's official nomination for consideration at the Academy Awards in the documentary short category. Its online release garnered over 100,000 views on YouTube in less than a month. She holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the School of Visual Arts NYC, a diploma in distribution and exhibition from the National University of Villa María, and a Master of Arts in Audiovisual Production from the International School of Film and Television in San Antonio de los Baños, Cuba. She founded the production company Cristal Cine and her most recent production is the feature-length documentary in development "Niñas Escarlata," winner of the FONPROCINE competition and the Docs Up Fund award at the Geneva Film Festival's Impact Days program. Paula has been part of the film talent programs IDFAcademy (2022) and Berlinale Talents (2022) where Niñas Escarlata was selected in the Doc Station laboratory.
